A Little About Me |
||
I am a certified teacher in the state of Kentucky. I am currently employed as a kindergarten teacher in a Catholic Grade school. Listed below is my education history and my experiences in the classroom. I graduated with honors from the University of Louisville in May 2010 and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I decided I wanted to become a teacher in middle school. I have always felt like I wanted to teach. My family informed me that I have been a "little teacher/mother" since I was very young. I was always taking care of other people and trying to show people younger than me how to accomplish things. I worked as an aid at St. Leonard Preschool from August 2007 to December 2009. I worked with the three year olds and the four year olds. It was an enlightening experience and I learned that patience is very important when dealing with children of all ages. I also worked at ValuMarket as Floral Manager from June 2008 to August 2009. During this time, I learned how to provide all the supplies needed to run my department and manage my own work hours. During college, I was given chances to work at Brandeis Elementary and Trunnell Elementary Schools. I completed my student teaching at Middletown Elementary in the fourth grade and Kindergarten. I had many great experiences with different age groups and achievement levels while in these schools. Diversity was prominent in each school and challenged me to meet the needs of all the students. I worked at St. Leonard School as the Kindergarten teacher from 2010 to 2011. I learned many things in my first year that they do not teach you in college and enjoyed my first year. I realized that I picked the right career and enjoyed every minute of teaching. I completed KTIP and received great ratings from my observers. I am a certified teacher in Kentucky.I received a lot of help and support from my employees and gave advice on differentiated instruction to some teachers trying to implement this concept into thier classroom. Outside of my classroom, I was an assistant coach for middle school girls basketball. This summer, I an assistant varsity volleyball coach. I plan to get more involved with clubs and organizations now that I have completed KTIP and will have more spare time. I also plan to begin my graduate degree in January 2012 at Bellarmine University. I am currently seeking an elementary teaching position. Teaching is the only career I have ever pursued and I believe it is my calling. |
![]() Some personal tidbits about myself: I enjoy painting and drawing. I take pleasure in art and took two classes in high school at Mercy Academy. During my free time, I paint or draw, but I get so engrossed in my work that I lose track of time, so unfortunately, I do not get to explore this hobby as often as I would like. I sew, knit and crochet also. I sew curtains and pillows for my friends and knit scarves as winter gifts. I am currently sewing puppets for my students to use in my table top puppet theater (built by my dad). I also enjoy being outdoors. Reading outdoors or going hiking is very enjoyable. I love to swim and go fishing when I get the chance. I have a daschund named Rocky who is my roommate. He was a present for Christmas and he keeps me motivated to stay busy. In the picture below, he is wearing a shirt that one of my previos students gave him for Valentine's day. My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my friends and people I care about. I love being around people and laughing. I enjoy life to the fullest and try to stay positive all day, every day. Contact Information: Email: jmrigg02@gmail.com |
